Sharlaine, a member of the Lummi Nation, is a tribal community and nonprofit leader dedicated to empowering people to build and strengthen community. She graduated from The Evergreen State College with a Masters in Public Administration program with an emphasis in tribal governance. She has helped her community promote prosperity through the Lummi Ventures Partnership - which has notably resulted in establishment of a small business incubator, financial literacy for families, a revolving loan fund and small business supports and a tribal artists’ cooperative. Through the Lummi Nation Service Organization she helps community and cultural leaders implement projects for tribal language revitalization, food sovereignty, the intertribal canoe journey, wellness/prevention and more. As a youth, she trained over 80 other young people at the Lummi CEDAR Project in leadership skills based in cultural traditional values to teach youth to lead healthy lifestyles, to build intergenerational partnerships and contribute to the community in meaningful ways.
