As Acting Secretary for the WA State Department of Corrections, Jody Becker-Green, MSW, Ph.D., leads a correctional system that is inspired by hope, rooted in humanity and strives to be legitimate in the eyes of those who are under correctional jurisdiction as well as those who serve proudly as members of the corrections team. Through collaborative processes, she brings people and ideas together as a collective force to make a positive difference and accomplish mission-aligned goals. In her current role, she provides executive leadership, overall direction and strategic vision to the agency through the integration of policy, practice and legislative/budgetary decisions to ensure public safety. In doing so, she helps to ensure the development of sound correctional practice and administrative support within the Washington State criminal justice system.

Jody has over 25 years of experience in the public and non-profit sectors as an executive leader, public administrator, researcher, social worker and policy analyst. She has spent part of her career living and working in Indian Country, focused on issues related to historical trauma, child welfare, social justice and behavioral health. She is a motivational, inspirational, and respectful leader with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, to establish rapport and trust with a diverse workforce, and to gain the support of others both internal and external to an agency to achieve a common goal. Jody is a strategic, innovative, and collaborative thinker with the ability to act courageously by taking risks and making difficult decisions.
